  • "We had the strip steak and the trout. The food was presented nicely. The steak was a little on the rare side - requested medium rare- but okay. The trout was over cooked and dry. The bread pudding however was fantastic. The service was on the slow side. I had to asked waterboys several times to send my waiter to bring me the check and once signed I had to actually get up and start to leave to pay at the cash register downstairs before my waiter noticed me."

  • "8407 has always been a favorite, but the service is not as good as it used to be. Our server was very friendly, but seemed to be a little lost as a waiter. He had a tendency to work on 1 table at a time which meant that there were large time blocks where I couldn't even get his attention. I had to ask for bread and water from a bus person. 1 of the 2 of them was friendly, the other not so much. The food was good and the wine that we ordered was delicious. It was a disappointing visit to what is usually one of the best restaurants in silver spring. Hopefully it was an off night."

  • "The food was just so so. We had Por boy and had stuff in it i had never seen before..celery? And the oysters were few. Other people had the quiche and pulled pork and no one was impressed. The waiter was great and did bring a free dessert as was one members birthday. Probably would not come back."

  • "Our first course never came, the waiter couldn't find the wine we ordered, the appetizer salad was the size of an entree, the scallops came raw. When they brought them back, they were burnt on the outside and still raw inside. We poured our own wine mostly, and when the waiter poured, he filled one glass and not the other. The manager did comp the scallops and dessert, but overall, we spent way too much time trying to get food and wine to the table."

  • "I found this menu to be simply average, and the service barely that. I met someone for lunch, asked for a dark napkin to cover my suit, and the server looked at me like I was crazy. Finally said no and instead offered me white cocktail napkins. I too had the chicken wrap, and the food was bland with grissle in my wrap. Really? Perhaps it was simply a bad day, but the experience was noteworthy enough that I'd most likely return only for drinks. Sad, because it's in a great location and the decor is nice."

  • "We eat regularly at Kitchen Bar and usually request a banquette near the bar. Last Friday, there was a large family group holding a special event dinner at the restaurant, and although they had reserved the "back" room, many of them stood around the bar talking before dinner, making the area around our banquette crowded and noisier than usual. Our server was apologetic and we knew they'd eventually move to their tables, so we weren't complaining, but the manager came and told us that they would comp our first round of drinks to compensate for the inconvenience. Just one more reason we love going there."

  • "Disappointing Washingtonian Magazines top 100 pick. The excellent décor & acceptable service did not make up for the sub-par food. The appetizers of fried oysters, raw oysters, "duck fat" fries, and pork belly were acceptable. Nothing special. The lamb chops were overcooked and under seasoned, not to mention skimpy; the pork chop was overcooked even though we specifically requested that they not be cooked well-done, and the scallops were raw. The highlight of the meal was the ginger and lime martini and the bread pudding. Both delicious. We will not return to this restaurant especially since it resulted in an upset stomach for one of the guests. There are far too many good places to eat in the DC area to give this one a second chance."

  • "We went to 8407 with a few other couples and had a great Friday night out! We sat in the bar, the food and service was excellent. We asked for some wine and cocktail recommendations and John was very helpful, answering our questions and making suggestions within our price range. We started with the shrimp risotto and everyone at the table nearly licked their bowls clean. I loved the tagliatelle and my husband said the lamb was the best he's ever had. A fun and relaxing evening, we'll be back for sure."

  • "I was looking for a place to meet D.C and Maryland residents, some without a car. Downtown was too much hassle and too expensive. 8407, a block from the Silver Spring metro, fit the bill. Local, seasonal and expertly prepared food and drinks. I've eaten here several times before and I am more pleased with each visit. The waiter was wonderful with a dry, droll style with attentive, non-intrusive expertise and knows the menus. All 5 of us cleaned our plates (appetizer, dinner and dessert). A great place to relax, visit, converse and have a wonderful dining experience."

  • "I was a bit skeptical at first, seeing the neighborhood in which 8407KB is situated. The restaurant is unassuming on the outside, but trendy, sporty, and fun inside. Terrific menu selections, great wines, and a great atmosphere all scored big points for my first date experience. I would definitely go back!"

  • "In a city FULL of all you can eat & bottomless brunches, Kitchen Bar leaves something to be desired. The service was really great, and you can sit there for a long time and did not feel rushed, so that was really nice. As far as the food, it's not great. I tried the meatballs, quiche, bacon, biscuit, and a few other things I thought weren't great. The one exception to that was the lox, which really was amazing, though there were no bagels. There also was a lovely spread of artisan breads, but no cheese, just fruit jams. I have friends who went there for brunch before it was a buffet, and they all said it was delicious, so I was really looking forward to going. I don't think I'd go back for brunch. The regular a la carte menu looked nice."

  • "This is my 5th or 6th dinner at 8407 and for the first time I had some difficulties. e were 4 adults seated upstairs in the dining area and the table was way too small for us - so small we were playing games moving (and removing) things from the table just to fit the appetizers and the two bottles of wine and water on the table. Tables are OK for 2 but for 4 they are just insufficient and too tiny. Food was good but the menu choices were limited and many items were not available. As others have noted, bar area might need to be thoroughly cleaned - one guest of mine ordered an after-dinner liquor and it came with bugs in the drink."

  • "Awesome time dining out. I hadn't seen my bestfriend in awhile & we needed to catch up. Our server, Eirik made this experience perfect. The recommendations were perfect for what I had a taste for. Also the food was great, except the tap water and the dessert wasn't the best. Our server made up for this with with jokes and sweet remarks. Great place to dine!"

  • "My best friend and I decided to try 8407 Kitchen & Bar during Restaurant Week because we had already tried the other featured restaurants before. The overall ambiance of the restaurant is warm and welcoming. The service we received from Eric was highly informative and personable. Our only slight critique was the food. We loved the cream corn soup but we did not care for the rainbow trout. Surprisingly, we both thought it was slightly bland. I would be willing to give them another try as they may have had the trout already made due to the demand during restaurant week. As with any restaurant, I'll say give them a try as your experience will be different from mine."

  • "Once we were seated the waiter swung by and said he'll be right back. About 15-20 minutes later the bartender came over and asked us if we wanted more drinks. We told him we were ready to order and ordered through him. The food was OK. I had to flag one of the bus boys down to ask for the check. A few minutes later the waiter came over and brought dessert menus. We told him we already asked the bus boy for the check and received a snarky remark about how only he (the waiter) can get us the check. This was the first time he was at our table and we were there for at least an hour and twenty minutes."

  • "All 3 of us raved about our entrees. The NC rainbow trout was outstanding. I liked the Flying Dog on tap. Wine was fine. Rhubarb dessert -- just ok; turn it into a real pie. I tried to book on Open Table for 7:00 -- 7:30 pm dinner on a Saturday night. It was either 6:45 or 8:00 pm; I took the latter. I got there at 7:50 and there were LOTS of available tables. Should I have called the restaurant directly?"

  • "Started with warm olives appetizer. Came with bread and cheese spread that was delicious. Trout was very good, but prefer their smoked trout. Wasn't crazy about veggie medley under trout. Partially because I don't like cooked tomatoes. Had marscapone polenta -- to die for -- like ice cream! I took a doggie bag home because I couldn't bear to let any of the food go to waste -- it was that good!"

  • "First time eating here. Wanted to try something new. Arrived to an empty hostess stand and waited ~3 min for her to arrive. Made a 7:45 reservation in Open Table but table wasn't actually ready until closer to 8:10 pm. Not sure why they'd even show an available reservation in the system...they kinda need to sync that better. Was doubtful after such a slow start, but bar service was friendly. So wait wasn't too bad. Dining room is nice. Love the decor. Wait staff was friendly but service was a bit slow. Food was good, but nothing to rave about. We eat out A LOT but probably would only come here once every few months based on this experience, probably when/if we want to change things up from our usual spots."
