8407 kitchen bar Ratings and Reviews
8407 kitchen bar is a lot of restaurant in a very small space. The view is not scenic, as it overlooks a metro station with a busy bus stop, but the interior is smart and has a lot of natural light. I had a first meeting, and we had a lot of ground to cover. The service was appropriately slow, to allow us plenty of time to talk and make our selections. The roast salmon with seasonal vegetables in white wine butter sauce was generous, perfectly cooked and delicious. I would have liked some sauce over the dish and on the plate, instead of the way it was served--in a bowl with an inch or more of sauce. My companion was from out of state and ordered crab cakes because he'd never had them. They looked good.
We were looking forward to brunch so much but the food was really just not well done. Two of us had a benedict - poached eggs were hard, potatoes that went with it were cold, the muffins soggy with water from the eggs. The crabcake benedict had an Old Bay cream sauce they said but instead it came in a weird sauce with sweet peppers (and that sauce base wasn't cream I swear). Couldn't taste the Old Bay, just an overwhelming pepper taste. I wouldn't have minded if peppers had been mentioned in the menu as then I wouldn't have ordered it.
The berries came in a sweet syrup. Just completely unnecessary to add sugar imho
They gave us 3 more bowls of hot potatoes just as we finished the meals. They also had peppers in them.
The bill for 3 people with one glass of mimosa was over $70. Sorely disappointed in this restaurant. I've been coming since they opened but will never return for brunch that's for sure.
Have been there about 5/6 times since my son started going to UMD... this time they were out of the bread they usually serve and the menus seemed to change there was no artichoke spinach dip and the chicken Madeira had too much cheese and no option for steak Madeira
The rest of the food was delicious though
We come to this restaurant to celebrate milestones and special occasions. We love the warm, soft ambiance and the privacy of the large booths upstairs. The menu is excellent and we were pleased to take advantage of half price wine night on Mondays. The servers are friendly and attentive without trying to up-sell or guilt you into ordering the most expensive dishes on the menu. The food and wine speaks for itself.
The service was spotty. Wrong dish came out for husband. They took care of it quickly enough but, of course, it meant that I was eating before his food came out then nearly done when it arrived. They could have offered either him a nibble or starting over with mine as well. This was brunch. No apology from anyone for it being screwed up. That seems a basic thing to do.
I've been going to this place of and on since it opened. Its become very average as far as food is concerned. We had a number of small plates and meat/cheese boards. The fried food really was less than stellar and this includes what use to be a delight - the French fries fried in duck fat. However, the drinks and the service were outstanding.
The only reason I would recommend this place is because of its location in dowtown Silver Spring, near the office buildings. This time I didn't see anything special. I tried a couple of their beers and didn't like any of them; my girfriend ordered Enchiladas and were DRY. I came for dinner a couple of years ago and the place was packed, this time was the opposite.
I was there with my friend and overall the place looked nice and cozy. I ordered my dinner & it took a long time to serve & once i got it unfortunately I found hair in it....they were quick enough to return it & get me another one. They gave me discount on my order which was nice....but the service was very slow overall.
When this place first opened I was its biggest fan. I feel like the quality of the food has suffered slightly but maybe that was just my steak. If I want it pre-sliced, I'm more likely to go to Medium Rare.
And I'm not entirely sure about the cowboy keyboard player and his choice of music. It was kind of like listening to someone run through their favorite hits from Grieg's piano concerto to the Girl from Ipanema. If it was an experiment, then fine. But if that's actulaly going to be your lounge music, it needs to be better curated! More 50s to go with your design vibe would be just fine.
I love 8407 and am here a lot, but I was disappointed. First, I made a reservation since this was a business lunch. I would think I could get a better table as a result, but I was in the back by the kitchen. Then there was a bug crawling up the back of the booth.
The fish tacos were ok. the sauce and slaw were good, but big chunks of fish not particularly seasoned well. The deviled eggs are always to die for, so I love them and they did not disappoint.
Overall, seemed like you have gotten busy but I hope my next experience is back as I have come to expect it. I really like this place and appreciate that you toughed it out during all the subway station construction.
Our greeting at the door was less than warm. The server was slow to offer us drinks. Our food (crab cakes) was pretty good.
Service honestly was no better than a low price restaurant, but we paid $36 for our main dishes. The guy who poured water had more charm than the waitress or host.
My overall first time experience here was not mediocre. When i asked if it was possible to alter an entre (change a side) i was told the chef was not willing to do so. My food was overcooked and tasteless, my partner's food was undercooked (Steak). The mashed potatoes was the best thing there (very good mashed potatoes). The atmosphere was wonderful. Pretty good service, from my waiter to all nearby waiters, everyone was very attentive.
8407 Kitchen Bar is one of our favorite go-to spots in Downtown Silver Spring (and the all-too-rare NON-chain). Good atmosphere, good food, good service and plenty of parking, not to mention super-easy access to public transportation. Highly recommend - and both lower-and upper-level bars are great for cocktails, snacks and conversation.
