Diner Reviews
  • "Food and service was great. Too bad the Silver Spring Transit hub is still such a mess so the view is lousy. Hard to get too but once there you can park in several metro garages."

  • "We picked this as a place to meet with old friends who live in Columbia. We live in Cathedral Heights, DC, and 8407 can be reached from both locations in under a half hour, and the restaurant is within a few hundred feet of two county parking garages that are almost empty at dinner times. The bar service is great, the table service is great, and the menu is interesting."

  • "Apparently a change in the kitchen as dishes we had enjoyed in prior visits were poorly cooked. Specifically, the duck entree was very badly undercooked."

  • "We were celebrating a family event and were excited to end our time together over great food, drinks and fellowship. We were not disappointed. We were seated upon arrival, with a prime spot by the upper floor window. The hostess was cheerful, our waiter Philip was just the right amount of chatty, and made us feel as though we were the only patrons. We started off with drinks and conversation. The Sage Advice provided us a mood swing to break the ice of an evening to remember. The menu selections are not overwhelming and provide ample descriptives. But, should the need for further explanation. The entire staff are readily available to provide insight. Everything on the menu will wow your taste buds. Bottomline: I would go again and again and again."

  • "Had an amazing time during DC Cocktail Week with a large group of friends. The service was personable and attentive. The pork belly was amazing and the drinks were delicious."

  • "Beautiful space, attentive service, however food was lack luster. Wouldn't do back and wouldn't recommend."
    Dined on 11/19/2014
  • "The food is good, but the service could use some refining. The servers and manager were sassy and didn't make us feel very comfortable while we were eating. One server tried to take our appetizer plate away while we were still eating off of it. The manager called us "stubborn" when we said no to dessert. In total, we had four different people wait on us during our dinner. All of our food was good, but the value really depends on what you order. My fiancee got a large portion of gnocchi for the $18 price. For $30, I expected to get more than just three scallops with my entree. Food is good, but stick with pasta and meat. Pass on the dessert."

  • "I have been to 8407 Kitchen Bar several times for lunch and dinner. This was my first time for brunch. The French toast tasted good, but each slice had a large portion that was soggy and unappealing, as if it were left in the batter too long or not cooked long enough. I will not order it again unless the preparation is tweaked."

  • "The food was great, the ambiance was great, but the waiter made the evening. He was attentive, knowledgeable, helpful and witty. Really added to the festive mood of our dinner experience."

  • "I've been to 8407 Kitchen Bar many times, and always have a really nice experience. The atmosphere is attractive and calming, and the food is very good. A little pricey, but worth it."
    Dined on 11/14/2014
  • "We came for brunch and ordered Benedicts. While the food was delicious, a half of a piece of thinly sliced canadian bacon on each muffin????? Have the prices for canadian bacon gone up? The brunch potatoes were well seasoned. My husband really really enjoyed the crab benedict."
    Dined on 11/2/2014
  • "The staff allowed us to come in 15 minutes before the restaurant officially opened so we wouldn't be cold. Friendly and welcoming. Efficient table service without the "hovering" that I hate. We stayed for many hours and never felt pressured to leave or buy more drinks."
    Dined on 11/2/2014
  • "My first visit - ate well prepared calamari and excellent duck. Nice wine selection. Service was helpful and prompt. The room was full but the noise level was very manageable."

  • "for the area this is one of the best dining options in an otherwise boring restaurant fare"

  • "I've patronized 8407 Kitchen Bar for quite a few years, and it has been my "go-to" for impressing clients. I have noticed in my last two visits that it may be on the decline. The menu hasn't really changed and is getting stale. While normally the drinks are outstanding and plentiful, on my last visit I was disappointed because the waiter (a rookie) did not explore with me the different possibilities of my drink order...he just took my order andcame back with a short, generic drink without the usual wow factor. The actual food is still great, but something is missing. Yesterday, I read in Washingtonian that the chef left last summer...is this what I'm sensing?"

  • "A good restaurant that is not a chain, or a dive. Definitely an anchor of Silver Spring's up-and-coming restaurant scene."
    Dined on 10/28/2014
  • "I've never had a bad meal here! Menu is different every time - home made soups are top notch - Veal sausages are sublime - And Monday's a half off bottles of wine! Can't beat that!"
    Dined on 10/27/2014
  • "As placing brunch orders ends at 2:30 PM, one needs to arrive much prior to that time in order to have a leisurely brunch experience."
    Dined on 10/26/2014
  • "I hosted a meetup group brunch event, and the food was pretty good, except for the overcooked poached egg the one person got. The omelets were amazing and the french toast was also very good. The service was slow, and the waiter took a long time to ask for our drink order, so many people decided not to get one because of the long wait. Overall a good food and a great amtomosphere."

  • "Grandparents, parents, and a three-year-old met for Sunday brunch. The waitstaff was very attentive to and solicitous of the boy, which the other four of us appreciated greatly."

  • "I like kitchen bar but don't understand why their prices are so high. My salmon was $28 which seems higher than reasonable. Food was good so no complaints about quality, portions were generous. Coffee was OK, nothing special. Service was a bit slow. One person in our party ordered dessert (bread pudding that we shared) which was so hot it burned mouths but it was tasty. Ever after it had been at the table several minutes it was still burning hot. Do they microwave it?"

  • "This was probably our sixth or seventh visit to 8407 kitchen bar over two years or so. It has been a "go to" place for us to bring friends and family, as well as an occasional family dinner in Silver Spring. It felt a little stale on this past visit. The food is fine and it is a nice place to eat and have a conversation, but the service was lackluster and frankly, for an area that has lots of new, interesting restaurants popping up all the time, 8407 felt like it was just going through the motions with this visit. We would probably recommend it to someone who has never been before, but it won't be an enthusiastic recommendation."

  • "Great food. We had mussels, steak and Branzino. All of the food was well prepared."
    Dined on 10/24/2014
  • "Server paid little attention to us. Noise level was over the top, had difficulty hearing the person sitting next to me. What a shame because the good was good. Will not return."
    Dined on 10/18/2014
  • "This place is great. We go here as a couple, with friends and family. The staff is personable and fun- Brad is one of our favorites. Ask him about his band. The good is fantastic- deviled eggs are a fan favorite."

  • "I miss the buffet very much. I thought it was a very good idea. My husband who had tried it, recommended me to try it. That was what I expected when I went for brunch. Too bad its no longer that way."

  • "Took myself on a date here. Food was amazing (highly recommend the lamb chops and flourless chocolate cake). Waiter was great and very attentive without being overbearing. Highly recommend!"

  • "This is one of my go-to places for lunch in Silver Spring when meeting colleagues or clients. Terrific menu, well-executed and now with their $8.47 specials, an even better deal. I have to remember to ask for "no fries" with my sandwiches because if they come, I will eat every last one. They are always so well prepared: crisp and fabulous. I had the turkey wrap and a soup. Soup was terrific and I took home half the wrap for lunch the next day. I've never been disappointed."

  • " Get the Duck, Wow!! It included a confit breast and a crispy fried leg quarter, which was my favorite. My friend had the Scallops and raved about them as well."

  • "This was another great trip to 8407. I met for a business lunch, he had the burger and I had the quesadilla. Delicious. Our server was very attentive and friendly."

  • "Still one of the best in SS, but the service has not been what it once was."

  • "Living and working in downtown Silver Spring, I am, of course, familiar with 8407, but had never been there for lunch. Seeking a spot for a business meeting on a Monday afternoon, I decided to try 8407, which was an amazing delight. The lunch menu has a big selection, including a list of impressive items for $8.47. My colleague had a gorgeous chicken salad wrap surrounded by crispy fries and I felt like I was stealing something by having two scrumptious and perfectly prepared Mahi Mahi tacos for $8.47. This is less than a decent salad at Whole Foods or nearby organic salad spots, I might add. We lingered undisturbed for more than 2 hours, enjoying the calm, quiet, and lovely meal. I'll be back!"

  • "Have dined here 3-4 times per year, and brought new guests with us this visit. Excellent cocktails, (unique use of bitters); creative quality food, and great service. Can't ask for more."

  • "I love eating in this restaurant because the ambience is so inviting. And our waiter promised us an excellent evening which we thoroughly expected to have. But our experience proved to be contrary. Trying to enjoy our conversation the servers twice rudely tried to dump the entree on us while we had barely progressed with the appetizer. Then when we were ready for it, half of the duck tasted like mush and was barely edible. The other half was wonderfully rare and flavorful. As was all of the other food. But the evening which was a special celebration had been dampened by the service and the duck. Too bad. This should all be an excellent dining experience."

  • "Sauces are revealing, & 8407 did not disappoint. We shared steamed mussels, which were large, fresh & done exactly right with abundant garlic & tasty toast. I had duck comfit - a guilty pleasure perfectly done - from the savory sauce to the crispy flavorful skin. My wife had sea scallops that were fresh and subtle. The Pinot Grigio was outstanding & a good match. The 8407 managers clearly love good food and help others enjoy it with outstanding service in a relaxing setting. You can tell when people are having fun at their job, and whoever runs this place is having a good time. Their joy is apparent and infectious. Perhaps such a fantastic place it is relatively affordable is because it is located by the idle Transit Center."

  • "The decor is contemporary and cool and the food was fantastic! Friends had been to the previous restaurants in this building and were impressed with what has been done. Service was great too! I will definitely return and have already recommended 8407 Kitchen Bar."

  • "Has this restaurant changed owners or chef? Bad experience from the warm beer to the roasted beet salad that was full of greens, tomatoes and grapefruit and only 4 pieces of tiny red beets that tasted like they were from a jar."

  • "Great Chicken & Rice Soup, Hamburger was dry and over cooked (I requested Med Well), French Fries were limp but they had great bread pudding for dessert. Country music was being played, I'm not a fan of country music. There was just one other table occupied so the service was fast and the waiter was very attentive. The only parking is two blocks away!"

  • "Great place in Silver Spring, easy to meet people at since it's right next to the subway. Attractive interior with exposed brick walls. The service was good and most importantly the food is very good, modern American food. I had the duck two ways, which was so much I took some home."

  • "We celebrated birthday there and it was a good choice. The drinks were very good. The mojito we ordered was great. The duck duo is recommended. The breast was amazing."
