L'Auberge Chez Francois Ratings and Reviews
We've been going to L'Auberge Chez Francois since 1984, and it's become our favorite restaurant. Service and food are outstanding. A beautiful setting. Can't say enough good things about it. Now our next generation of family members is counting it among their favorite occasion restaurant. You cannot get wonderful regional French food like this anywhere else in the area. I hope it's around for another 60 years.
My husband I were married at Chez in 2005. We thought our visit on Saturday was possibly our best ever. Mark greeted us warmly and as a party of 6, we felt so welcome. James served us and could not have been more ideal. He embodied the Chez values perfectly. Thank you!
For us this is a special occasion restaurant. Celebrated our son's 30th birthday dinner there recently. Food was great, service excellent. Long but pretty drive for us to get there. My only caveat is the prix fixe structure. Would like to be able to order less of the admittedly excellent courses. I simply do not have the appetite for that much food.
One son had the roast duck. He is the foodie in the family and he thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Our other son had the deer and quail offering. He was delighted with the flavors and the presentation. My wife and I had the veal at a friend’s suggestion. My wife is of Italian heritage so she I’d a veal aficionado. We will be back!
Melissa is new to the restaurant and a welcome addition.
For decades, this has been one of the finest French restaurants in America. That has not changed. Everything about it is superb -- service, ambiance, menu. It is not the spot for a quick meal, as everything is prepared to order from fresh ingredients. Though not stuffy, it is a tad formal and may not be to everyone's taste, but we have been coming here for years and have never had anything less than a great meal with outstanding service.
My wife fell backwards while trying to move her chair back. the staff was very concerned and helped her up and expressed concern about any injury. She was fine. Waiter was very attentive.
food was superb. Dining room was very cozy with the table near a fireplace.
We recently visited L'Auberge Chez Francois for our anniversary dinner. We had never been there before, but had heard good things about it and understood that it would be pricey. We thought the food was good, the service was just ok, the noise levels were high, and the value was questionable.
We ordered the Prix-Fixe offerings - the menu does not present a la carte as an option.
My dinner companion is the most awesome woman in the world!
All of the food we ordered was very good. My wife ordered Onion Soup, Shrimp/Spinach Salad, Duck Breast, and a Grand Marier Soufflé. I ordered Bay Scallops/Mushroom appetizer, house salad, Beef Tenderloins, and the Grand Marnier Soufflé. We were offered many extras - a sampling of lentil soup, sorbet, a special Anniversary dessert and a sample of cookies and chocolates.
Even though the food was great, it was no more notable than many other good French restaurants we have visited.
We were seated for at least 5 minutes before anyone acknowledged us. We were not provided menus and were left to wait for someone to visit our table. Then we were given water and it was probably another 5 minutes before we were given menus and asked if we would like to order any drinks. The process felt very pro forma - they went through the routine and at the end we paid the money.
Charging extra for the spinach salad when you are already paying $80+ per person seemed unnecessary.
While we are all about not being rushed, it was 1 1/2 hours into our evening before the salad course was complete and we were awaiting our meals.
There is just way too much food. While everything was tasty, it was a ridiculous barrage of food. We were both nearly full before our entrées arrived. We only ate half our meals to save some room to at least taste the soufflés.
So... Two people for dinner. Good food, but no a la carte offering. OK, not great service. $320 with tip. Just too much money for what you get.
We have patronized L'Auberge Chez Francois over 20 years and have never been disappointed, the food is superb, the ambiance wonderful and the service is always top notch. It is by far our favorite restaurant even though we have to drive 50 minutes to get there.
Chez François has been my parents’ favorite since they opened. Took Mom for her birthday. Tommy treated her like a queen! We had lunch. We had the pate appetizer and the crepes with duxelles. Superb! Their pates are the best. We were served split pea soup with our breads. So nice on a cool day. Mom was full, I had the Lemon Sole special - terrific. We had ordered Mom’s favorite , Gran Marnier soufflé. They surprised Mom with another dessert. Needless to say, we devoured both! I love the ambience, food and service here.
