L'Auberge Chez Francois Ratings and Reviews
The meal was perfect. Everything was perfectly prepared. The restaurant was the perfect setting for our occasion. It was formal enough but still relaxed enough for all of our party to enjoy themselves. The Filet of Sole lived up to its reputation. The wine list was excellent and we found several bottles which went well with the meals we had chose. The restaurant is an exceptional value when you consider the quality of ingredients and the final product.
Went there for lunch with several retired teachers. We each indulged in the tasting menu that includes appetizer, salad, entree and dessert. Everyone enjoyed all of our choices. The service was excellent as always. Can't wait to return. Still one of my favorite places to eat in NOVA, DC area.
The service was excellent, warm with personal touch. The food -a fixed menu with 4 courses was good as well. The settings of this restaurant were elegant with a home feeling. The only downside is the tables were bit of too close; the conversation of the adjacent tables came clear and loud especially after a few runs of alcohol were consumed by those people.
We celebrated our anniversary at L'Auberge Chez Francois, and it was the perfect place for a romantic night out. The service was impeccable, and the food was delicious. We split the chateaubriand steak, and it was amazing! We upgraded the menu with Caesar salads and the grand marnier soufflé, and both were well worth it. Overall, an A+ evening!
On the recommendation of several friends who dine here regularly, we were excited to celebrate our wedding anniversary with dinner at L'Auberge Chez Francois. The restaurant was charming. Although we were early for our reservation, we were seated promptly. The amuse bouche and appetizers were amazing. However, from the salad forward, things went rapidly downhill. First, I found plastic in my Caesar salad. I informed the gentleman who cleared our course, and watched him report it rapidly -- but no one came to talk to me. Some time later, the waiter, upon serving the main course, offered a casual "sorry for your salad" comment as he was placing the next course down. (The salad was ultimately removed from the bill, but I had to figure that out for myself because no one spoke to me about it.) The entrees were barely average (my husband's duck breast was overcooked), and the desserts were unremarkable. To add even further insult -- we heard most of the tables around us being wished happy birthday/anniversary, but no one said anything to us (we indicated on our Open Table reservation that we were celebrating our anniversary, and I also mentioned it when the restaurant called to confirm our reservation). In the end, we left the restaurant very disappointed, and are not likely to return. We also shared our experiences with our friends who frequent the restaurant -- and they are disappointed as well.
This is our families favorite restaurant for special occasions. The ride out there is so relaxing on a country road just outside the hustle and bustle of city life. The ambiance is perfect, and the food devine. All of the appetizers are delicious. Several of us covet the soft shell crab entree when they are in season. They are the very best we have found. The menu is varied and sure to please everyone.
This is a fine restaurant and the food is delicious. The chef came out to talk to us. We also met a small group of people who would be accompanying the chef on a cruise in Europe. The French food served at L'auberge is perhaps one of the best in the DC area.
Our latest meal at L'Auberge Chez Francois was perfect. The staff here. is always attentive, helpful and knowledgeable while remaining totally unpretentious. The same is true for the sommelier who listened to our preferences and was eager to educate/guide us. She introduced us to the large selection of 1/2 bottles on the wine list so we could enjoy different wines with our meal. Our meal was perfect from the first bite to the last. L'Auberge always exceeds our expectations. Impeccable service, flawless food and great atmosphere are the hallmarks of any meal at this authentic Alsatian restaurant/institution.
I celebrated my birthday at L'auberge Chez Francois. From the moment we arrived, my small party of three was treated with graciousness and attentiveness. Our wait person was amiable and knowledgeable without being intrusive. We loved the ambiance, the decor, and the overall warmth of the restaurant. The amuse bouche and the palate cleansing sorbet were delicious and unexpected treats. We finished the meal with out of this world souffles. Hats off to Chef Francois and his team, both in the kitchen and in the front of the house.
I have dined at this restaurant since the late 60's when they it was located in DC. and it has always been one of my favorites. Their current establishment is much more sophisticated. The ambience is fantastic, the service is terrific and the food is always five star +. They have updated their menu to some degree but the traditional items are still available.
As always, the food was very good. Service was attentive, but not remarkable.
The problem was, on this particular occasion, the wait for the main course to arrive was unacceptably long (30-45 minutes). I have dined here a number of times over many years, this was a first poor experience.
Enjoyed the rich flavors of everything we ordered. The restaurant is expensive and totally worth the expense. Every table was taken when we were there, but the spacing of the tables permitted easy conversation with all 5 members of our group. We always look forward to a meal at Chez Francois every year.
As always, the Auberge provided impeccable service, excellent food and special attention for our 17th anniversary. We love Alsace and it's cooking and the Auberge easily matches the best of that region has to offer. We can hardly wait to return. The soft shell crabs were superb, the souffles perfect - all in all, another nice evening.
Basically, quality doesn't live up to the price. $250 for two with two glasses of wine. Some of my surf and turf meat was tough and my scallops came in the meat sauce. Yuk. Wouldn't go back. One of the deserts was good the other terrible. Coffee, although they assured me it was French roast was watered down. Dover sole and beef cheeks were not interesting nor was plum tart. Had expected a much better meal.
The restaurant is absolutely charming -- couldn't be more attractive, and the service people are terrific. The weakness is actually the food. And while it's good, it's not great. I had the short ribs for lunch, and it didn't look or taste like short ribs. It was like cafeteria pot roast -- honestly -- thin slices with a pretty weak maderia sauce. My husband had the beef cheeks for an appetizer and it was really mediocre. The desserts are great, though! And the house salad was very nice.
Service (Richard) was superb: attentive, helpful, good timing.
Caesar salad had far too much dressing--soggy. Vegetables were overcooked. Lamb done perfectly, as was sirloin steak; Dover sole was fresh and tasty. As usual, the soufflés were superb.
All-in-all it was good. I will return as I have since the early 1970s.
Had a wonderful dinner in a french restaurant in a country setting.
Food was classic and traditional as french classic cuisine goes, quite nice
Excellent staff and sommelier .
Wine selection nice.
My lobster was cooked to perfection
Presentation of dishes was well done and plates arrived warm.
We celebrated a special occasion and it's the perfect location for it
My only wish is that they would have had some valet parking that evening.
This was the first time we'd been there at lunchtime. The service was superb, as always. There's still a lot of food but not quite the "groan" as at dinner. I had never had beef cheeks before and ordered them out of curiosity. Meh, thought it tasted like pot roast. Live and learn. Lobster salad was really good, house salad and chocolate dessert also very good. We'll be back!
