L'Auberge Chez Francois Ratings and Reviews
We had a multiple birthday celebration last Tuesday. We all love coming to Chez François. It's especially good for me as I am gluten free. There are so many choices, it's wonderful. We are 12 women and the waiters are wonderful! It's not easy dealing with a dozen women!
Thank you for providing a wonderful dining experience,
We have been going to L'Auberge Chez Francois for over 35 years and have never been disappointed. This time, we were celebrating our 50th anniversary with our kids and their spouses (two of whom are professional chefs). Four of us had the lobster-- it was delicious. Abel, our server, was very attentive and helped make out evening memorable. Thanks for a great evening.
My wife and I visit L'Auberge Chez Francois from time to time, usually on special occasions. This one was no exception. The food was awesome, the service impeccable, and the ambiance always welcoming and comforting. In all the years we have enjoyed L'Auberge, we have never once been even slightly disappointed.
Currently we are considering a large gathering of friends (about 16), and spoke with the staff about possible accommodations. As always, they assured us that this would not be a problem, and took the time to show us the "where" and the "how."
L'Auberge Chez Francois -- Not to be missed.
We have been going for years...in fact we just went a few months ago! My only complaint this time was the plates were extraordinarily hot. I also burned my tongue on the soup-this tells it might have been sitting for a bit. Our waiter was very kind and pleasant, but not the usual. We were very impressed with the GF options.
They are totally phoning it in. This place used to be good (and at one time, great). But it is a shell of its former self. The food was poorly prepared, super super salty and just slapped on plates, which were slapped onto the table. Cracked wine glass, dirty silverware, shrugged off by apathetic waiters. Never again
The food and service was wonderful. My only complaint was the bill contained errors that were discovered after we returned home. Everyone in our party had the price fixe luncheon menu, which by the way is a great bargain. Several of the courses offer special upgrades for an additional cost. We were charged the ala carte price for the upgrades instead of the lower upgrade price published on the price fixe menu. Next time we will examine the bill more carefully. Despite the billing errors, the meal was worth the price!
This is elegance! This restaurant has proper service. You will not leave hungry. You will later crave what ever you ate or took a bite of whether from your plate or someone at your table. I have been wanting to try the crepe as a starter but I have always stayed loyal and true to what I order on every visit. Thankfully my friend ordered it and it was lovely. It was light while also being hearty from the mushrooms, you could taste a little sweetness. I was craving it later. My usual has never failed me. I always get the roquefort tart, roquefort salad, beef bourguignon and the raspberry souffle'. We take my friend from England to L'Auberge Chez Francois every year when he visits. We were happy that he fell in love with a restaurant we are so passionate about. If you enjoy beer, you must try Le Picon Biere. It is my favorite. Picon is very hard to find and thankfully Jacques spoils his customers with it. It is made with Kronebourg 1664 and Picon Amer with a twist of lemon. I'm in love with it as well as the garlic toast with cottage cheese. I could have it every day. This restaurant is very special. You will travel back in time when service and food mattered.
It is always a joy to drive over to Great Falls for an al fresco dinner in the garden. The red accents are evident in the waiters' uniforms, furniture & flowers. As the summer heat subsided & the fairy lights brightened, we relaxed with a Kir Royale & appetizer of garlic toast & chive-cottage cheese spread. First courses were the soft shell crab stuffed w/ lump crab meat and searded Canadian foie gras w/ a glass of Sauternes. Palette cleansing orange sorbet was perfect. The sommelier recommended a wonderful Gruner Veltiner to accompany my lobster & Barry's seafood feast. We pre-ordered dessert souffles: Grand Marnier for me & chocolate for Barry. Cappuccinos & sweets followed. Service was excellent & personal. This is a "must do" destination!
I had known L'Auberge Chefz Francois for more than 24 years. It used be a unique place with the chef's special touch on every plate. It doesn't seem to have the high standard any longer. While the service is still magnificent, the dishes are not the master piece that they used to be. I wouldn't want to pay such high price for an ordinary dish even if it turns out to be 5 courses. Wish they had kept the bar high for their food quality.
Great evening. We brought our dear French friends here to celebrate our joint anniversaries. The staff took great care of us. My friend and I shared the chateaubriand for 2 with bernaise sauce and truffle sauce. Fabulous! Still one of the classiest restaurants in the DC area.
Brought a friend here for a weekday lunch to celebrate her birthday and lucked into temperate weather that allowed us to enjoy lunch al fresco, which greatly contributed to our enjoyment. While the food was basically good, there were a few mis-steps: no salmon caviar on the salmon appetizer; pommes frites that seemed to have been made earlier; but, worst of all, an "Alsatian-style tart" that bore no relationship to what used to be served here as an amuse and was simply barely sautéed onions and bacon over pot cheese served on a crumbly matzoh-like cracker (horrible) -- like something from California Pizza Kitchen. Mercifully, main courses and soufflés were up to usual standards and the birthday guest was treated to a baked Alaska of her own which delighted her. Service was perfect in every respect. We had never tried lunch here before and, although it seems like a good value, the level of care and cooking may not be the same as evenings.
I had forgotten how dreadfully expensive this place is. Although the food was wonderful, there is no way it was worth an average of $150/pp. Also when we were 1st seated, it was quite a long time before anyone remembered to bring us menus. Overall, I was underwhelmed with the service and overwhelmed with the expense. Won't be going there again.
