Great dining

Dined 6 days ago

The food at Ripple was some of the best cooking I've had in DC in quite some time. The imaginative and intelligent flavors brought out by the cooking were a real treat. We had the duckling and the lamb, and the meats themselves were actually only so-so, but the sauces were superb! Portions were not gigantic, and previous reviews of tiny portions scared us away from the cheese platters (although they sounded awesome). The appetizer portions were similarly modest, but the entrees were plentiful. Try the ice cream for dessert -- ask about the flavors; the honey-star anise was wonderful. We came early so it was quiet - probably a good bit noisier later in the evening. Because there were so few people, the service was great too.

Wonderful dinner and great relaxed atmosphere. Three of us enjoyed the cheese plate and it does not disappoint. Delicious homemade jam and honey served with it. For entrees we had the NY strip, duck and vindaloo. The duck was amazing and the plate was left clean. Service was attentive and inviting but not too intrusive. Great night out and delicious food.

Stellar Dining Experience

Dined on May 20, 2016

My boyfriend and I came here for his birthday, having been only once before for desserts, and we were delighted to find the whole dinner experience as wonderful as dessert. The staff is extremely knowledgeable; we trusted our waitress to select a bottle of wine for us, and it was perfect for our both of our dishes and both of our tastes. The cheese and charcuterie selection has a great variety of delicious options. The cold spring salad I got as an entree was not your traditional salad and had a surprising combination of flavors and textures that was way better than a traditional salad. Entrees were amazing; he got duck, I got lamb, and this was the portion of the meal that made him say he thought this was probably the best meal he's eaten in DC. I'd have to agree. The menu here changes seasonally, so we'll be back to try out new things throughout the year. In season when we went were strawberries and rhubarb; it was the flavor of the jam with our cheese, and the filling of the seasonal cobbler we had for dessert (both delicious). I'd also like to note that the interior design and decor of the whole restaurant is totally perfect for the modern, innovative, and sophisticated cuisine they serve.

Food and service were fabulous. Cocktail selection quite entertaining. The noise level was VERY LOUD! At a table for four talking across the table was very difficult and most times we had to lean in and repeat. they could put more sound deadening materials on the walls, which would really help..

Lamb tartare: best of any tartare I have ever had. Me bride is a serious cook. She can usually reproduce anything she eats. Not so our meal at Ripple. Complexity out of her league. We will be back!

Interesting menu

Dined on May 15, 2016

Interesting menu allows you to do a traditional, 3-4 course meal , or an assortment of smaller plates, or really any arrangement that suits. Very good food, not a bargain, but reasonable for the quality. The service was good, server knowledgable, although chattier than I prefer.

Overpriced good food

Dined on May 13, 2016

The food was fine. The service was ok. When asked what kind of mushrooms were in the "wild mushrooms" dish, server said he didn't know. And he didn't offer to find out. The ceviche was bland and unevenly cut. Also. The gnocchi was good. I wasn't impressed with the portion sizes for the price. There was nothing new or noteworthy about the meal. Cooked fine, but not outstanding. Unremarkable.

I cannot rave enough about Ripple. I took my boyfriend there for his birthday. From the moment we entered, we were exceptionally well treated. Our server, Kristin, was incredibly helpful. Since my boyfriend is allergic to nuts and nut oils, she went into the kitchen to go over the menu with executive chef Marjorie Meek-Bradley to make sure what dishes he could or could not eat. Based on her recommendations, we ordered the smoked halibut rilette, the spring vegetable salad, the seared octopus, seared black bass and the duck breast. We started off with the wonderful fresh-baked rolls. Each course was superb. We could not decide which we enjoyed the most because each one was so different and so well composed. The wait staff cleaned the tables and presented fresh cutlery between courses. Our glasses of water were constantly refilled. We ordered dessert, ice cream and the miso carrot cake. The ice cream had a birthday candle in it. Throughout the meal, management would come by to see how we were doing, as did Kristin. My only regret...well, two regrets...the first, that I didn't want the meal to end and secondly, not having a chance to actually meet chef Marjorie. I can see now why she came so far on "Top Chef." I wish she had won. It was an incredible evening. Thank you to everyone at the restaurant. Another plus, the restaurant is a very short walk from the Metro which made it far easier to visit rather than searching for a parking spot.

Catching up with an old friend, we were a restaurant's nightmare. 2 extremely fussy eaters (different requirements) and one "appetizers only" spent more time catching up than perusing the menu. Our server was very patient, and eventually we organized ourselves enough to order delicious drinks with entertaining names, and a couple of snacks. Despite our copious food restrictions, the menu was varied enough that we actually had difficulty making selections. All our food was great, except for something very disturbing that we think was pickled strawberries. If I lived nearby, I would often be too tired to make dinner, and dine here instead.

One of the best meals we have had in the DC area! We are relatively new to the area and are eating our way around town hitting many of the hot spots. I had eaten at Ripple in the past, but not for 5 years or so. It was good before, but is great now under the new chef. Everything we had was amazing, the service was very friendly and helpful. One of my dining companions was a chef and he was very impressed as well! Can't wait to go back. Would love to pop in some time for the grilled cheese bar!

This was simply excellent from top to bottom.

Dined on April 29, 2016

Four of us went for dinner, and we ordered probably 8 or 9 items on the menu to share, mostly starters but one entree as well. Everything was tremendous. Highlights include the duck, the tuna + umi, the barrata, and the yogurt dessert. Marvelous. Welcoming atmosphere and my only complaint is that it might have been just a little loud. We were thankfully in the front room which is smaller and quieter than the main room or bar area, so we didn't have any problems talking. Service was great, drinks were nice, the staff was warm. Overall this is a grand slam.

Ripple's a Gem!

Dined on April 24, 2016

We enjoyed a Sundsy evening business dinner here. The staff was outstanding - knowledgeable, patient when answering questions, with excellent customer service skills. The wine list was fantastic, and more importantly the staff was thoroughly knowledgeable about the wine list. Wine was served as requested (a rarity in the best places). Good was delicious and creatively presented. Don't forget dessert...well worth the calories!

I went with two other friends for brunch and it was delicious. THey have 4 different flavors of mimosa (raspberry was best) and they keep your glass full (bottomless!) The price was very reasonable for the amount of food you get. I will definitely be going back for brunch and to try the grilled cheese bar at dinner!!

Delicious food in a neighborhood restaurant

Dined on April 20, 2016

Ripple just keeps getting better and better. The menu is filled with creative items with lots of vegetables either as main or additional ingredients. Accent here is on creative with few, if any, commonly found dishes. But we find them delicious. The dishes, while not tiny, aren't overly large either. If one is feeling hungry, it is possible to have appetizers, pasta, and mains. Desserts are excellent so same room. The white list is very good and the sommelier does some terrific pairings. 3 ounce glasses of wine are available so that one can sample different wines. Service is friendly and professional.

Brunch at Ripple

vip
Dined on April 10, 2016

The brunch was moderately good at Ripple. I had the eggs benedict and it was fairly good; however, the home fries on the side were extremely undercook which took away from the overall meal. My friend had the meal that consisted of a biscuit, fried chicken, and gravy, and explained that she loved it. Although I did not participate in the bottomless brunch special, the value was fairly good as their mimosas were essentially champagne with a splash of a fruit juice. I would not necessarily go back here as there are so many other notable brunch places in DC; however, I would recommend it to people looking for a cute brunch place to go with friends.

Sampled Ripple for Anniversary

Dined on April 2, 2016

Big Top Chef fans, we were excited to try Ripple for our upcoming anniversary. Little did we know it would be so tough to get a table, we had to eat at 5:00pm. We were the only ones in the restaurant and though the food was tasty, it was quite awkward. Would only go back if we could get a decent timed reservation.

Good Choice

Dined on March 27, 2016

We wanted to try a new restaurant outside our area in Montgomery County. I looked up restaurants & reviews for restaurants in upper northwest D.C. Ripple stood out. We enjoyed our brunch. The decor was pleasant & colorful. We would happily come back. The main drawback is lack of parking. It took 15-20 minutes to find a spot. We walked off the calories we consumed on out trek back to our car !
