Diner Reviews
  • "My husband and I have been working our way through Tom Sietsema's list of top restaurants, and last night we tried Ripple. What a wonderful experience. The service was first rate, and the food was absolutely delicious! Loved the scallops, gnocchi with duck ragu, brussel sprouts, mushrooms, and butterscotch pudding. We will definitely go again."

  • "Warm, cozy neighborhood gem. Duck, steak and lamb entrees all outstanding. Service impeccable."

  • "We had duck and scallops from the early bird menu, which also appear on the regular dinner menu. Both were noteworthy! But the overall best part of the restaurant experience was the service. Devon, our waitstaff, was excellent. Even though the food was terrific, she made the experience worthwhile; she was attentive, smart and aware. I'll go back to Ripple anyday and when I do I hope I can have Devon as our waitstaff."

  • "I had dinner here with an old friend and was pleasantly surprised that not only was my new york stripped cooked perfectly to order, everything else about the menu was creative and tasty. Not every restaurant could pull off a delicious sun choke gratin or even a beautifully curated (if a little sparsely curated) cheese plate. And order the olives to start. They are great quality and they give you about a trillion. After we finished and I left the restaurant, the server even dashed out onto the street to give me the leftovers I'd forgotten to take with me. That was truly special. I highly recommend this restaurant to any foodie looking for a great meal and in the mood to support great service."

  • "this is our families favorite special occasion restaurant. the menu is updated seasonally and uses some unusual ingredients but never to excess. we love the cheese and meet plate assortments. my husband's rib eye steak brought tears to his eyes it was so good. my kids love the fresh baked chocolate chip cookies for dessert and thankfully skim milk is now avail to accompany. portions are not super sized which we appreciate. i would like to see a dessert option that has fruit in it. the cheesecake with pears was sold out . good energy, great service, we are big fans of ripple. PS bring back the bacon pecans!!!"

  • "Service was great, nice location - close to metro. Food was so-so, my boyfriend had a steak which was excellent. I had the pork, it was tasty but over 50% of it was fat. I should have said something at the time. For dessert we got the chocolate chip cookies, they are made to order but they were lacking something, not sweet at all. I was disappointed. I was glad I tried this place out but probably won't be back."

  • "I have a friend who has been raving about Ripple for a while. I finally had a chance to go on Friday night (4 of us) and it was outstanding. Every item we had was thoughtful and yummy. It is on my radar for sure and I will have to bring my family next."

  • "Brought a friend who is new to town and had eaten at Ripple twice before and enjoyed it. This time, I was disappointed. My friend liked her meal a lot, but my fish (dorade) was fishy and a bit overcooked. The veggies accompanying it were overcooked as well. We had an appetizer that was overdressed (an endive salad) and the cheese plate was good but not remarkable or that unusual. The homemade flatbreads are wonderful as was our wine selection. Overall, I wouldn't go out of my way to go again but would if i was in the neighborhood."

  • "After the positive reviews this restaurant in Cleveland Park has received, we were under-whelmed. On the plus side, the pate de campagne was excellent and the gnocci was very good, although not the best in town. Disappointing was the cheese course, which was presented cold and with very limited condiments, the dorade was a mere sliver at $28, and the green salad was pedestrian. At these prices, while not expensive, Ripple has some maturing to do to make waves against the competition."

  • "I took a client to dinner on Halloween night.. and despite that Washington DC goes "crazy" on Halloween, everything was perfect. The ambience, the staff, the wine, the food were wonderful. Rachel and her team were such a delight. She had them prepare a wonderful cheese appetizer to our liking, suggested fabulous wines and the dinner and dessert were simple yet the flavors were complex. I love the farm to table and sustainable aspects of the restaurant. The menu is not large but it has something for everyone... The restaurant is perfect for dates, meeting friends and having dates. It's a gem.. I'll be back soon."

  • "I was a bit hesitant about dining here as the menu is very limited and I tend to eat very little meat. However, between the appetizers and the entree menu I had no difficulty. In fact the choices were excellent with intense flavors that were not masked by sauces and gravies. One caveat, make sure to save room for dessert, the pistachio cheesecake and butterscotch pot de creme were to die for!! The menu changes often which will entice me to keep coming back. In addition to the food the service was exemplary. Our waitress was friendly, helpful and attentive without being smothering. We were able to done at a leisurely pace and never felt rushed. Recommend this restaurant with 2 thumbs up"

  • "We had the good fortune of finding this restaurant during our recent trip to DC. We thought it was an organic farm to table restaurant but really it was just a fun foodie restaurant with some interesting flavors and highly imaginative recipes. Most of the dishes were over-done, not in cooking but in the flavors and number of ingredients. I like my food a little fresher and cleaner, with a bit less "extras". No need to sprinkle ground peanuts over a salad that has plenty of fresh good flavors. Also, this is not a restaurant for the vegetarian crowd--lots of meats. All said, a fun menu and nice cheese listings."

  • "In fairness, it was 10:15 on a Friday night. But since Ripple took a reservation for that time (didn't just accommodate us when we walked in cold), my feeling is dinner should have been on par with what we'd have enjoyed at 8. We've eaten at Ripple a few times and this was the first time we withheld all five stars :)"

  • "The cocktail list is on point. The cocktails we had were tasty, creative and refreshing. Our lamb tartare was also enjoyable but when it came to entrees, it was never the star that we enjoyed the most - or even at all. Ordered the tilefish and the duck and the fish was overdone and the duck required a steak knife. The accompaniments were much more enjoyable as there was some sort of seasonal squash with the duck and cauliflower was our favorite part of the tilefish dish. The fish was overdone and more chicken-like. Overall, not my favorite dining experience."

  • "The food at Ripple is fresh, creative and simply extremely delicious. Both times I have eaten here I have found the wait staff to be far nicer than anywhere else. They are friendly, helpful, upbeat, and make point of being there for YOU. This is definitely a plus in my book. We had a great evening."

  • "It took awhile to get our food but it was very good. My mother who is hard of hearing had trouble because it was fairly loud in the restaurant. Some people in our group thought the menu was not big enough. I enjoyed my meal."

  • "Very good service and food. Steak entree excellent; vegetarian option good (sauces and rice cake great; fried tofu just fine). Would like lighter dessert options although the cheesecake was very good! Back dining room quiet So conversation easy."

  • "I went here with my boyfriend & a group of our friends. We started the meal off with a bottle of wine, which was really good. Then we had a cheese plate to share. All of the cheeses were delicious (though the servings might have been a little small) & the menu descriptions were helpful. For a main course I had the crispy dorade, which was amazing. I loved the whole dish. My boyfriend got the duck. He thought the duck was good, but that the sides (broccoli rabe & squash) were mediocre. For the cost of the duck the sides should have been equally delicious. We all split some desserts, the butterscotch pot de creme (worth getting!) and the pistachio cheesecake (good). I would definitely recommend trying this restaurant."

  • "Here's a newer restaurant that wants to make a name for itself but it serves food that is only OK but is beautifully presented. I had a pork dish which tasted like lower priced grocery store pork chops. The accompanying vegetable dishes were very pretty but all together the did not constitute a full serving of vegetables. The plate had a drizzle of squash purée, a single, overdone baby green onion or leek, and a few pieces of potato. Pathetic wine list is unusual. I bet the grilled cheese happy hour is where this place would shine"

  • "Creative, interesting and just plain consistently delicious food. Great staff, friendly, knowledgeable and fun. Best wine list in the city, delivered by a staff who knows their wine inside and out. Our favorite place in the city!"

  • "I went to Ripple last week and the food is great. The only complaint I have is that I ordered the berkshire pork and it was cooked in a pan that had been used to fry fish, which created a pork/long john silvers hybrid that tasted awful. this is the only thing I've ever sent back in a restaurant, and the waitress was a good sport about it, replacing it with something else, which they then charged me for, without any explanation or apology, It's not about the money, it's the lack of interest in the quality and consistency of service. I've never run a restaurant, but I've gone to hundreds of them, and it seems to me that if someone is paying $200+ to eat at your place, you wouldn't charge them for your mistakes."

  • "My boyfriend and I went to Ripple for Sunday brunch and the food was delicious. Ripple has an awesome deal where for $30 you can get a pastry, a brunch entree, and bottomless champagne drinks! Ripple had delicious food and the 3 flavors of bubbly drinks for the bottomless deal included orange, apple, and grapefruit. It was delightful."

  • "Randomly found this spot through a Buzzfeed list but was pleasantly surprised to find that this restaurant had a great brunch without being overrun with masses of people. Great food, lovely staff. Great brunch special for a pastry, entree & bottomless mimosas for only $28."

  • "Just a quick note that the food was delicious (particular standouts were the bacon roasted pecans and the stuffed bone marrow) and the service was welcoming and attentive without being overbearing."

  • "This restaurant has great service and great wine. The wine list is extensive, and multiple servers were more than happy to guide us in our selection of various glasses. I went with a friend on a Saturday night; we intended to have a long meal, ordering things little by little. We started with a selection of cheeses, which was delicious (some interesting varieties!). We then ordered two small plates to try the food. Food was fine; nothing overly exciting or tasty. Dessert was okay as well. In the end, I walked away satisfied from the wine and cheese but the food seemed pricey for what we got (though I will admit we did not get full entrees). I will come again for the wine, but not the food."

  • "The menu in the restaurant is short but has a good array of meat and seafood (maybe not enough for vegetarians). The plates are extremely attractive and the good is delicious. The desserts are really good and definitely not something you make at home. A good array of reasonably priced wine."

  • "Crunchy little ginger slices, savory panna cotta, crispy fish, smooth sunchoke soup: it's an adventure to eat here. Quiet at 6, buzzing at 8, it has bigger and smaller plates so you don't come away stuffed."

  • "This was my first time to Ripple. We were seated in a small room with a large window view of the street and lots of natural light (at least until dusk). It was easy to have conversation because there wasn't any blaring music and there were only two other tables in the room. The cocktail menu is playful, and includes several that aren't overly sweet. The food was delectably fresh and tasty. Even things like lobster and mild fishes, which so often turn out to be bland and deadened, were flavorful and cooked to just the right level. This is not an inexpensive restaurant, but I found it worth the price. Service was attentive but not obtrusive."

  • "Great food, great wine selection. We went on the late side (9.30pm) and one of the entrees was out of stock so better to go earlier. The wine we picked was also out of stock but they gave us a great recommendation and charged the same price as the one that was out of stock. The service was very nice and savvy. The food was delicious and very good timing between dishes."
