Diner Reviews
  • "The food at Ripple is fresh, creative and simply extremely delicious. Both times I have eaten here I have found the wait staff to be far nicer than anywhere else. They are friendly, helpful, upbeat, and make point of being there for YOU. This is definitely a plus in my book. We had a great evening."

  • "The food was good was little there was of it. The service was lovely. Their Signature $14 cocktails where abysmal."

  • "It took awhile to get our food but it was very good. My mother who is hard of hearing had trouble because it was fairly loud in the restaurant. Some people in our group thought the menu was not big enough. I enjoyed my meal."

  • "It was great food. Just the right amount. A little pricey, but you get what you pay for. I will definitely be going back."

  • "Very good service and food. Steak entree excellent; vegetarian option good (sauces and rice cake great; fried tofu just fine). Would like lighter dessert options although the cheesecake was very good! Back dining room quiet So conversation easy."

  • "they declined to give us reward points . food was overrated and over priced. the menu was too short and did not have enough variety"

  • "I went here with my boyfriend & a group of our friends. We started the meal off with a bottle of wine, which was really good. Then we had a cheese plate to share. All of the cheeses were delicious (though the servings might have been a little small) & the menu descriptions were helpful. For a main course I had the crispy dorade, which was amazing. I loved the whole dish. My boyfriend got the duck. He thought the duck was good, but that the sides (broccoli rabe & squash) were mediocre. For the cost of the duck the sides should have been equally delicious. We all split some desserts, the butterscotch pot de creme (worth getting!) and the pistachio cheesecake (good). I would definitely recommend trying this restaurant."

  • "Here's a newer restaurant that wants to make a name for itself but it serves food that is only OK but is beautifully presented. I had a pork dish which tasted like lower priced grocery store pork chops. The accompanying vegetable dishes were very pretty but all together the did not constitute a full serving of vegetables. The plate had a drizzle of squash purée, a single, overdone baby green onion or leek, and a few pieces of potato. Pathetic wine list is unusual. I bet the grilled cheese happy hour is where this place would shine"

  • "Creative, interesting and just plain consistently delicious food. Great staff, friendly, knowledgeable and fun. Best wine list in the city, delivered by a staff who knows their wine inside and out. Our favorite place in the city!"

  • "What a treat to find such a great spot in walking distance of our hotel. Extensive wine list and inventive menu."

  • "I went to Ripple last week and the food is great. The only complaint I have is that I ordered the berkshire pork and it was cooked in a pan that had been used to fry fish, which created a pork/long john silvers hybrid that tasted awful. this is the only thing I've ever sent back in a restaurant, and the waitress was a good sport about it, replacing it with something else, which they then charged me for, without any explanation or apology, It's not about the money, it's the lack of interest in the quality and consistency of service. I've never run a restaurant, but I've gone to hundreds of them, and it seems to me that if someone is paying $200+ to eat at your place, you wouldn't charge them for your mistakes."

  • "My boyfriend and I went to Ripple for Sunday brunch and the food was delicious. Ripple has an awesome deal where for $30 you can get a pastry, a brunch entree, and bottomless champagne drinks! Ripple had delicious food and the 3 flavors of bubbly drinks for the bottomless deal included orange, apple, and grapefruit. It was delightful."

  • "Randomly found this spot through a Buzzfeed list but was pleasantly surprised to find that this restaurant had a great brunch without being overrun with masses of people. Great food, lovely staff. Great brunch special for a pastry, entree & bottomless mimosas for only $28."

  • "Just a quick note that the food was delicious (particular standouts were the bacon roasted pecans and the stuffed bone marrow) and the service was welcoming and attentive without being overbearing."

  • "This restaurant has great service and great wine. The wine list is extensive, and multiple servers were more than happy to guide us in our selection of various glasses. I went with a friend on a Saturday night; we intended to have a long meal, ordering things little by little. We started with a selection of cheeses, which was delicious (some interesting varieties!). We then ordered two small plates to try the food. Food was fine; nothing overly exciting or tasty. Dessert was okay as well. In the end, I walked away satisfied from the wine and cheese but the food seemed pricey for what we got (though I will admit we did not get full entrees). I will come again for the wine, but not the food."

  • "The menu in the restaurant is short but has a good array of meat and seafood (maybe not enough for vegetarians). The plates are extremely attractive and the good is delicious. The desserts are really good and definitely not something you make at home. A good array of reasonably priced wine."

  • "Great evening enjoyed by all 8 of us. Richard, our server, was awesome!!! Thank you Richard!!"

  • "Crunchy little ginger slices, savory panna cotta, crispy fish, smooth sunchoke soup: it's an adventure to eat here. Quiet at 6, buzzing at 8, it has bigger and smaller plates so you don't come away stuffed."

  • "This was my first time to Ripple. We were seated in a small room with a large window view of the street and lots of natural light (at least until dusk). It was easy to have conversation because there wasn't any blaring music and there were only two other tables in the room. The cocktail menu is playful, and includes several that aren't overly sweet. The food was delectably fresh and tasty. Even things like lobster and mild fishes, which so often turn out to be bland and deadened, were flavorful and cooked to just the right level. This is not an inexpensive restaurant, but I found it worth the price. Service was attentive but not obtrusive."

  • "Great food, great wine selection. We went on the late side (9.30pm) and one of the entrees was out of stock so better to go earlier. The wine we picked was also out of stock but they gave us a great recommendation and charged the same price as the one that was out of stock. The service was very nice and savvy. The food was delicious and very good timing between dishes."

  • "Delicious food. Great wine list (and recommendations). Knowledgeable staff. The bacon pecans are a must. The hamachi/edamame appetizer was a nice surprise. A real treat."

  • "Dining at Ripple is always great. The bacon-roasted pecans are insane. I had the tofu (I was choosing between the tofu and the pork, chose tofu on the waitress's recommendation and she was totally right) and my boyfriend had the duck. The duck was a little overcooked but everything else was exceptional. The waitress was really knowledgeable about the wine list and helped us pick out a reasonably priced bottle that went with both our main courses. When we left, we didn't even realize we forgot two cookies we'd had them wrap up, and the hostess came sprinting down the street to find us. Great restaurant!"

  • "The one complaint I have is that my friend and I went to Ripple specifically for the grilled cheese that I'd read so much about. The website denotes that you cannot make a reservation for the grilled cheese happy hour, but I didn't read anywhere that you can only order grilled cheese at happy hour. When we sat down we realized we didn't have grilled cheese menus. We thought maybe we could order at the bar, but the waiter (after inquiring further) explained that grilled cheese could only be ordered at happy hour and late night. This was very disappointing and could've been avoided with clarity on the website. The food we did end up ordering was still great, but not what we had in mind for the night."

  • "I enjoy visiting Ripple because Chef Marjorie frequently introduces new dishes to the menu. The visit was no exception. I tried the sunchoke soup, bone marrow, and fried tofu. Each dish was rich in flavor, reasonably priced and a manageable portion. Fred, the bartender, paired each dish with a good wine choice that highlighted the subtle flavor elements of the dish. I can't wait return again and see what else Chef Marjorie has created."

  • "The cheese and charcuterie plate was fabulous and paried with a great wine form their extensive list. The entrees were equally impressive. The house-made spaghetti with tuna, garlic and herbs was divine. A great meal that was outstanding and yet not pretentious."

  • "Saturday evening dinner, the food lived up to its hype. The bone marrow was sublime. The only snag was very long wait for our main course. Our server checked with the kitchen twice before it finally came."

  • "We had a great evening at Ripples. Loved the cheese and meats we had for apps. My friends raved about their steak and the duck, while feasted on the Branzino and lobster--just could have used a loaf a bread to soak up the incredible broth. Will recommend to friends"

  • "I've been to Ripple several times for dinner and brunch, as well as for grilled cheese. The service is outstanding -- the staff is friendly, attentive, accommodating, and knowledgeable. The food ranges from "tasty" to "close-your-eyes-I'm-in-heaven" good. I've ordered the steak more than once, and it's always cooked to perfection. There is an extensive wine list with excellent new world and old world selections, and I've had several very good cocktails (the "Fashionista" that my girlfriend ordered was delicious). The ambiance is very pleasant -- the restaurant feels both trendy and classy, and is quiet enough that you can have a conversation. Overall, I've eaten at many excellent restaurants in DC, but Ripple is probably my favorite."

  • "If your visiting DC or simply compelled to live here, Ripple is a great choice for an excellent experience. A comprehensive selection of libation to accompany a delicious array of dishes awaits. Ripple is known for their cheese, though the broader menu is full of delicious surprises. I simply love it when the menu is small ... which indicates that each and every selection will be carefully prepared and beautifully served. Nice job!"

  • "My favorite restaurants are those where the meal combines ingredients in ways I would not think of myself. Ripple met that standard with the salad, the main course and the dessert. Our server was excellent - knowledgeable, charming and attentive but not intrusive."

  • "First time guest at Ripple, saw the reviews so had to check it out. Definitely lived up to the reviews and some. The wine list was extensive and different offering a variety from all over the world. The food was very nicely done and the selection included something for everyone. Would recommend"

  • "I am a restaurant professional from NYC and I went to Ripple because of the reputation it had amongst my colleagues. It was amazing. The service was efficient and warm. The menu was easy to understand and the perfect size. The wine list had a lot of gems especially if you know wine. The food was easily the best meal I had in DC. You must have the bone marrow. Everything from the deviled eggs to heirloom tomato salad to spaghetti to the delicious berry ricotta mouse was perfect. Portions are filling but not overwhelming. Great value for price. I wish I lived in DC just to eat here more often! Bravo to Danny, Chef Marjorie, and their entire team."

  • "This is the second time we've eaten at Ripple in the past 2 months, and it did not disappoint. The menu was mostly new, which is nice, since so many DC restaurants wait way too long to change their menus. The food was delicious and while it is pricey, it was worth it. My only complaint is that the service was a little too fast, as if they were trying to usher us out quickly."

  • "Ripple lives up to its advertising: the food was seasonal, elegantly prepared, and appropriately portioned. Service was professional and attentive. The only downside is the cost. All the inspired menu, sustainable/local food, and outstanding wines and beers comes at a pretty high price. The value proposition was high, but most won't be eating here everyday."

  • "Came here to have a mid-week date with my wife, and it was perfect. We ran a touch late for our reservation, but they sat us without hesitation. Service was prompt, but never hurried. Server made great suggestions. Wine was good. Food was great. I had the melon salad for an app, which was light and flavorful. My wife had the chilled corn soup with crab. That was amazing! I took a bite of it and wished I could steal it from her. For entrees I had the steak with corn pudding and fried green tomatoes. The steak was cooked perfectly, and the side items were flavorful. She had the hand made spaghetti with tuna. It was good and had a nice spice. Overall a great meal. Price was great, too. About $100 for both of us."

  • "My girlfriends and I were looking for a bunch spot with brunch classics, was reasonably priced, and gave us the option to have a mimosa two. Ripple proved to be a great source. Got the brunch deal which included a pastry, entree, and bottomless mimosas for $28 dollars. All the food we had was great, and the mimosa options we delish (blood orange, orange juice, grapefruit juice). They were also very accommodating with dietary restrictions- one of my friends was gluten free and they brought her a fruit bowl instead of a pastry."

  • "Met another couple for Saturday dinner at Ripple. We started at the bar and enjoyed some lovely red wine. Sat down for dinner and really enjoyed the homemade and fresh corn bread. We did not order starters, but our mains included duck breast, monkfish and two small plates (chilled crab soup and heirloom tomatoes with ricotta, cashews and peaches). We then shared some cheeses, which were totally disappointing! Not because of taste but because you pay $5 for two teeny tiny slices of cheese! Ridiculous. We paid over $30 for the most pathetic cheese plate, not cool. Everything else was good."

  • "Ripple was a great place to dine for a birthday. Overall the food had really interesting flavors and was delicious, though occasionally wasn't as flavorful as you might expect. The highlight of the meal was absolutely the bacon-infused bone marrow. Despite it being an appetizer, the meal could have ended with that and, though I wouldn't have been full, I would have been extremely satisfied."
